The Chicken Book

Handbook for keeping happy chickens - The Original

The alternative to factory farming is the own chicken in the garden. If you want to breed "happy chickens" and even keep them in more densely populated areas, this practical book with its easy-to-follow instructions and beautiful pictures is the best guide.

The extensive work deals with all questions of keeping chickens: from the right stable and its optimal equipment to the purchase of chickens, their requirements and feeding, to breeding and rearing. The various breeds of chickens are presented in detail, with a focus on old and endangered breeds. The authors deal with the prevention and treatment of chicken diseases in the same comprehensive way.

Not only the well-founded texts, but also the beautiful photographs reflect the authors' love for these animals, which will please any reader interested in chickens!

The authors:

Wolf-Dietmar Unterweger, graduate chemist, lives in Wain, Unteres Allgäu. Since 1982 he is a book author and photo artist. His works deal with the sustainability, ecology and regionalisation of the rural world. He considers his life's work "The Farmers" a world cultural heritage.

Philipp Unterweger was already interested in the connections between ecology and agriculture during his school days. He did his community service on an organic farm. There his conviction in working with good and sustainable food was strengthened and his desire for a "world in 100% organic" was confirmed. Finally, he studied biology, German language and literature and art history at the University of Tübingen and received his doctorate in biology.
